During Garnet and Olivers honeymoon in New Orleans, she meets a dance-hall performer on the lam who calls herself Florinda Grove and is also traveling to California. Yearning for adventure, she instead marries Oliver Hale, a wild trader who is about to cross the mountains and deserts to an unheard-of land called California. The characters engage in several grotesque, bizarre, and explicitly crude situations, and upon the film's re-release in 1997 it was rated NC-17 by the MPAA "for a wide range of perversions in explicit detail". While living in a trailer with her mother Edie ( Edith Massey), son Crackers (Danny Mills), and companion Cotton ( Mary Vivian Pearce), Divine is confronted by the Marbles ( David Lochary and Mink Stole), a pair of criminals envious of her reputation who try to outdo her in filth. The film stars the countercultural drag queen Divine as a criminal living under the name of Babs Johnson, who is proud to be "the filthiest person alive". It is part of what Waters has labelled the "Trash Trilogy", which also includes Female Trouble (1974) and Desperate Living (1977). Pink Flamingos is a 1972 American black comedy film directed, written, produced, narrated, filmed, and edited by John Waters. ![]() ![]() ![]() Aiding Frodo are the Wizard Gandalf, the Man Aragorn, the Elf Legolas, and the Dwarf Gimli, who unite in order to rally the Free Peoples of Middle-earth against Sauron's armies and give Frodo a chance to destroy the One Ring in the fire of Mount Doom.Īlthough often called a trilogy, the work was intended by Tolkien to be one volume of a two-volume set along with The Silmarillion. From homely beginnings in the Shire, a hobbit land reminiscent of the English countryside, the story ranges across Middle-earth, following the quest to destroy the One Ring, seen mainly through the eyes of the hobbits Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. The title refers to the story's main antagonist, the Dark Lord Sauron, who, in an earlier age, created the One Ring to rule the other Rings of Power given to Men, Dwarves, and Elves, in his campaign to conquer all of Middle-earth. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My dad was an English teacher, so reading was key, and I was able to read all the starter books on my shelf by the time I was four. I’ve been married to my husband, Nathan, for nine years, but we’ve been together for seventeen. I volunteered at a couple of aquariums doing docent or behind the scenes work, I got halfway through a certificate in archeology, I spent many years volunteering at community theaters both onstage and off, I read tarot cards, and I scrapbook and listen to documentaries when I need to decompress (or I play endless rounds of solitaire with real cards). Q: Today I’m sharing my interview with Kristi Petersen Schoonover! I’d love to start things off if you could share a little bit about yourself and what types of stories you enjoy writing? Are there any other genres that you dabble in?Ī: Most writers have many interests, and I’m no different. ![]() ![]() ![]() She now dressed street-savvy: a narrow brimmed trendy hat, a fitted white T-shirt with green trim on the hem bands, snug jeans with a studded belt, and the latest fashion heels. That the two manage to meet, date, and fall in love is something of a miracle in itself-perhaps the only one that can sustain them through the season of miracles. And Ford, a rich doctor from a prominent Savannah family, doesn't even think of himself as gay. For one thing, Dan is a hemophiliac who's HIV-positive. Their attraction is immediate, but the couple must face down several obstacles. Ford McKinney first lays eyes on Dan Crell when he's singing carols at the hospital where they both work, the mournful minor-key tones of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" seeming to broadcast "the sadness of Christmas" in contrast to the lights and decorations around them. From the start, it's clear that Jim Grimsley's vision of the holidays holds as much darkness as it does light. ![]() Question: What could be more terrifying than bringing your significant other home for Christmas? It was the only one that Saphira liked, being that Eragon presented her with mostly male names. She was named Saphira after Eragon went to Brom for names of past dragons. ![]() Despite her young age she is one of the strongest dragons ever seen. Her body stature could be inferred as very aerodynamic and built for flying, and in Eldest, Oromis said that he had never seen a dragon so skilled at flying and naturally suited to the sky. Her head was roughly triangular and she also possessed four cheek spines, slightly curved horns and forehead spines between her horns. She had two serrated fangs that jutted out of her upper jaw onto her bottom lip slightly, as well as with all dragons, had white, sharp, knife-like, meat-shearing teeth. Her talons and spikes on her neck, back, as well as tail were bone-white. Her vision was enhanced, for she was able to see blues more clearly and vibrantly than reds and greens. Her color, as described in the book, differed in the movie where she appeared a rather dull blue. The radiating blue tone of her scales resulted in the nickname given to her by the elves, Saphira Brightscales. ![]() Saphira's scales and eyes were the color of sapphires, often described in the book as intense blue that refracted the light. ![]() |
